Course abstract

The study course aims to provide an in-depth insight into the latest technologies for drinking water extraction, treatment and quality improvement. The study course includes the interrelation of various elements of sewerage systems, hydraulic and technical and economic calculations of sewerage networks; wastewater treatment technologies and sustainable wastewater solutions in times of climate change.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

The student knowes: 1) the actual practice and technical solutions for the water supply and sewerage systems design; 2) the impact of water supply and sewerage systems on the environment; 3) the impact of the environmental conditions on the functioning of water supply and sewerage system; 4) current legislation in the field of water supply and wastewater – examination.
The student can apply the national legislation and perform the necessary calculations of wastewater volume and constructive elements of water treatment stations – practical work.
The is able to develop the action plan from the perspective of water management – practical work.

5. Practical work for precipitation wastewater calculation (3h);
6. Mechanical wastewater treatment technologies (3h);
7. Chemical and Biological Wastewater Treatment Technologies (3h);
8. Calculations of wastewater treatment plants (STP and SWTP) (3h);
9. Practical work for wastewater calculation (3h);
10. The latest technologies in sewer construction (3h);
11. Coordination of operation of water supply system elements (3h);
12. Selection of water supply system elements (3h);
13. Improvement of physical properties and chemical and bacterial composition of water (3h);
14. Practical work for water treatment station calculation (3h);
15. Firefighting and the latest technologies in the construction of water mains (3h);
16. Practical work in the development of a water management system plan (3h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

Successfully passed the exam; developed and successfully defended practical works.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Each student independently prepares practical works with a choice of systems and calculations based on regulatory enactments, according to the instructions and approval of the lecturer. Appropriate scientific and practical literature should be selected and the results obtained in the literature should be summarized, compared and analyzed, and individual conclusions should be drawn.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Student performance is assessed cumulatively. A maximum of 100 points can be obtained during the semester. At least 50 points must be obtained to succeed.
The total amount of points that can be received during the semester:
• 50 points in the exam;
• Practical works 50 p.
The total amount of points received during the semester are applied for determining the final grade as follows:
50 ... 54 points - 4 (almost satisfactory);
55 ... 59 points - 5 (satisfactory);
60 ... 69 points - 6 (almost good);
70 ... 79 points - 7 (good);
80 ... 89 points - 8 (very good);
90 ... 94 points - 9 (excellent);
> 95 points - 10 (with distintion)
