Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to get acquaintaince with the structure and history of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) and the Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering (VBF), with the structure of study program and regulatory documents, with the information background for studies, specifics of study process in civil engineering and the career options.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Know about the structure and history of LLU and VBF. Have knowledge about course content to acquire during studies, job specifics in civil engineering field, as well as about Information System of the University.
Achieve skills to search and find the information on regulatory documents of LLU, textbooks and periodicals, have skills for the formatting of the individual works according to VBF methodology.
Achieve competence to gain understanding about the Information System of LLU, about regulatory documents of studies and construction, about the building design process and about the literature on LLU and VBF. Can answer to test questions and develop practical work .

1. The contents of the course, objectives and realization of the course plan (1 h).
2. The constitution of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) and study regulations (1 h).
3. The history of LLU and museum visit (1 h).
4. Information provision by LLU IT system (1 h).
5. Undergraduate study program in civil engineering, time schedule, duties and implementation of study program. Career opportunities after graduation (1 h)
6. LLU IS and MOODLE program (E-studies system) (1 h).
7. Mastering of skills in MOODLE program (1 h).
8. Student life in LLU and the Student's Self-Government role in students' daily lives (1 h).
9. The history of VBF. The structure and academic staff of the Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering (VBF) (1 h).
10. Instructions for formatting of the student individual works in LLU (1 h)
11. Mastering of skills in formatting of the student individual work (1 h).
12. Job specifics of civil engineer in the field of building design and supervision (1 h).
13. Job specifics in construction management (1 h).
14. Job specifics for civil engineer in construction supervision and inspection of existing buildings (1 h).
15. Experience of our graduates (civil engineers) in the educational and scientific branches (1 h).

16. Discussion – the summary of the course (1 h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

Informational offering of studies; a passed practical work “Formatting of the student individual works”.
Attended at least 85% of all classes.
Answers that prove the knowledge about the contents of the course; discussion. Grading – passed.

Informational offering of studies; practical work.
Individual study of relevant literature.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The ability of a student to demonstrate his/her knowledge and skills about the contents of this course (answering the questions).
