Course abstract

Students acquire practical knowledge and skills in research planning, implementation and defence within the framework of the Bachelor's thesis. Practical works improve their skills in realization and presentation of certain researches.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge – student understands the structure of the bachelor thesis, its development stages, and the procedure of preparation and submission of the thesis; knows how to make a presentation of their research. (Test)
Skills – student is able to develop research plan independently, to carry out research, to present it and to draw the main conclusions; to make, present and defend a research presentation. (Practical work 1 and 2)

Competencies – Student is able to plan and carry out research independently, explaining and defending the research. (Homework)

Course Content(Calendar)

Full-time studies
1. Outline of bachelor thesis development stages, preparation, submission, thesis reviewers, defence.
2. Bachelor's thesis and control of plagiarism.
3. Analysis of bachelor thesis goal and task formulation, improvement.
4. Positive and negative examples of previous bachelor's theses (formulations of aims and tasks).
5. Structure of bachelor's thesis. Literature and references.
6. Development of research plan.
7. Development of research plan.
8. Defence of research plan.
9. Drawing conclusions.
10. Positive and negative examples of bachelor thesis conclusions.
11. Introduction and annotation, their differences.
12. Prepare an example of introduction and annotation.
13. Conditions for correct presentation.
14. Good and bad examples of presentations.
15. Presentation preparation and analysis.
16. Mistakes in defence of bachelor thesis.

Part-time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full-time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one-half of the number specified in the calendar.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Test with a mark.
The rating consists of:
• One test on a theory.
• Two practical works - developing a research plan for the bachelor's thesis and preparing a presentation on a specific topic.
• Homework - work on bachelor's thesis by submitting a progress report at the end of the course.
Test, practical works and progress report must be successfully completed (lowest grade 4)

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Practical work. Elaboration of research plan for bachelor's work (Student starts work in classes, continues and finishes individually)
2. Practical work. Preparation of a presentation on a specific topic.
Homework - work on bachelor's thesis. Progress report.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

To pass the course, the student must pass the test; complete and defend two practical works; prepare and submit a report about homework.
