Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to acquire the necessary skills with a field computer in production conditions and to work with the WEB and GEODS versions of the MF GEO forest management support system, the course deals with the integrated application software packages usage in different types of text documents, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as development of capacity-building applications usage applying the programming language Visual Basic for Applications capabilities.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

As a result of the study course the student:
• know application methods and programming language Visual Basic for Application (VBA) (tests and practical assignments);
• are able to use applications in large-scale text processing, processing of data obtained in research, preparation of different types of presentation materials and use of macro applications in expansion of applications (test, practical assignments, homework);
• are able to work in a group or do work independently to acquire, select, analyse, and process information using application software packages (practical assignments, homework).

Requirements for awarding credit points

In order to receive a test score, all practical works and successful tests must be developed. Score is the average arithmetic mark of test marks, home work and test and accept Independent work.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Completion of tasks to be performed in practical work. Execution of additional tasks before taking the test, strengthening the acquired knowledge. Homework. At home, you need to create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on a topic related to GIS application
specialty. The presentation should include different types of objects (table, chart, pictures, etc.) and use available presentation design tools. The homework should be submitted to the supervisor in electronic form (volume 10-15 slides). A 10-point scale is used to assess the work. The independent work includes the acquisition of the necessary skills with a field computer in forest conditions and work with the WEB and GEODS versions of the MF GEO forest management support system.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

A 10-point scale is used to assess the tests and homework. The grading of the study course is assessed as the arithmetic mean from three components and accept Independent work:
1. Test Nr.1
2. Test Nr.2
3. Homework
