Course abstract
The course gives a general idea of what is ionic food, as well as introduces the fundamental technologies. The course deals with radiation, X-ray and electron accelerators for general principles. Physical processes, irradiated food and radioactive contamination, units and physical parameters that are measured. Standardization of process and product safety. Plant and animal products processing. Dosimetry and food safety.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
After studying the course the student will
• knowledge and critical understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of irradiated food
• skills to formulate, critically evaluate and use the basic knowledge in practical work – to read and understand technical documentation and to understand the specific units • competence in cooperation with the other industry specialists to make decisions regarding the irradiated food quality, compliance with regulations.
