Situation and development perspectives of vegetable production sector. Agrobiological and economical characterisation of vegetables. Entrepreneurship as one of the development directions of vegetable production. Sustainable technologies, high quality of the output, post-harvest, storage and realization of vegetable production grown in open field and greenhouse.
Knowledge about biological and ecological demands of vegetables and providing them in open field and greenhouses, perequisites for starting of entrepreneurship in vegetable production – tests, practical works;
Are able to evaluate economically the ways and methods of growing vegetables in specific field / greenhouse conditions – tests, practical works;
Are competent to evaluate the market situation in vegetable production`s sector and to choose the most suitable specialization for model farm – practical works.
1. Economic significance of the vegetable growing sector, statistics, current events and perspectives, basic aspects of vegetable production. 2 h
2. Agrobiological, ecological and economic characteristics of vegetables. 2 h
3. Vegetable production resources. 1 h
4. Vegetable propagation, quality requirements for growing and marketing of propagation`s material. 1 h
5. The most relevant stages in the production of field vegetables (cabbages, root and bulb vegetables, pumpkins as well as additional species). 4 h

7. Covered areas, preconditions for their rational use. Production of vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, lettuce, radish) in greenhouses. Innovations in the use of greenhouses for vegetable production. 4 h

Practical work
1. Economic groups of vegetables. 2 h
2. Vegetable seeds, quality indicators of sowing properties, calculation of sowing norms. 4 h
3. Modelling of farm with specialization in vegetable ptoduction in open field, cost analysis for the production of field vegetables, applying intensive or extensive growing technologies. 4 h
4. Growing of vegetable seedlings – planning and modelling. 2 h
5. Planning of rational use of covered areas. 4 h
Written exam.
The final mark is average mark of:
- the cumulative score of the 2 tests;
- exam mark.
All practical work must be developed, defended and credited.
The tests should be successfully completed.
The cumulative grade is obtained when all the requirements are met and the average grade is above 6.5. If the average grade ir less than 6.5, students should pass an exam and the score awarded will be the final grade.
Preparing of practical works according to the given task, using additional materials (handouts, scientific literature and other sources of information), works are developed individually and presented.
