Course abstract

The course provides students with basic knowledge of the state and legal theory, insight into the leading branches of law: constitutional law, administrative law and civil law. The knowledge acquired is useful for solving various legal problems and exercising rights. Students acquire practical skills in drafting legal documents.

The aim of the study course is to develop competencies of students in the basic issues of law.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE of
1. The most important basic concepts and terms of law (Test).
2. The most important concepts and regularities of family law and inheritance law (Test).
3. The most important terms of obligations law and ownership law (Test).
SKILLS
Professional skills to
1. Independently structure the studies, select legal acts and find solutions to problems (Educational game).
2. Independently make decisions and demonstrate close familiarity with theory for solving issues (Independent work).
Soft skills to
1. Work individually and in groups, make decisions, take responsibility, demonstrate organisational skills as well as identify legal acts, apply them and draw conclusions (Discussions in classes).
COMPETENCES to
1. Independently solve various practical legal situations based on available legal information (Group work).

2. Critically analyse situations, take part in interpreting legal provisions and drafting laws during studies (Final test).

Course Content(Calendar)

Full time intramural studies:
Lectures
1. Legal system (1 h lecture).
2. Concept of civil law and the role of it in the legal system (1 h lecture).
3. Family law (1 h lecture).
4. Inheritance law (1 h lecture).
5. Property law (1 h lecture).
6. Obligations law (2 h lectures).
7. Obligations arising from causing damage (1 h lecture).
8. Labour law (1 h lecture).
Practicals
1. Concepts of the state and law (1 h practical).
2. Labour law. Conclusion and termination of an employment contract (1 h practical).
3. Civil law. Civil law, its role in society (1 h practical).
4. Concepts of obligations and a contract. Procedures for concluding and terminating contracts (1 h practical).
5. Concept of inheritance law, the most significant types of inheritance (1 h practical).
6. Aspects of family law (1 h practical).
7. Concept and role of property law, the ways of property acquisition (1 h practical).
Part time extramural studies:

All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student must pass 3 tests on relevant topics and participate in educational games and group work as well as complete practical assignments given in practicals.

Final assessment of the study course – final grade (mark) is given as an accumulative assessment of the study results.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The student must do an individual assignment to successfully participate in the educational games Termination of legal employment relationships and Distribution of matrimonial property.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The total assessment consists of 4 activities:
1) 3 tests – (20% each);
2) final test on all the topics (40%).

Final assessment of the study course – final grade (mark) is given as an accumulative assessment of the study results.
