Course abstract

The course explores shallow, pile and deep foundations; their applications to buildings, engineering structures and technological equipment; foundation and subbase soil design principles; specifics of foundation renovation design; optimisation of foundation solutions and the use of software in foundation design. Software MS Excel, and GEO5 is used in the design.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: of stress detection methods in basement and basement calculation methods. Attendance of lectures, oral examination. Skills: perform foundation construction and basement strength and deformation calculations, in accordance with the Eurocode 7 methodology. The skills are evaluated in practical works and calculation paper. Competence: ability to rationally choose foundation construction and calculation method, according to loading, operational conditions and geotechnical conditions of basement. Examination (written and oral).
