Course abstract
Students develop systemic understanding on: the direction of pedagogy of higher education, its categories in the context of the subject of pedagogy, nowadays education paradigms, approaches, theories and developmental tendencies in the pedagogy of higher education. They analyse and assess didactic innovations: cognitions on programme design; working in big and small groups; assessment; supervising of scientific theses and projects; settings of studies; academic supervision; importance of reflection, values and attitude in studies. The course consists of lectures, seminars, a course paper,exam.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
1.Knowledge: know, understand, assess problems, paradigms, approaches and theories, opportunities of creating and implementing innovations in the pedagogy of higher education systemically - independent work (publication with a presentation in an international conference).
2.Skills: able to: do research responsibly, create new knowledge or understanding on existing knowledge and their practical application; communicate on problems of the pedagogy of higher education and its developmental tendencies with scientists/professionals and society in general – seminar. 3.Competence: able to: put forward innovative research ideas independently, analyse them critically, synthesize and assess them in the pedagogy of higher education and multidisciplinary; do research critically and analytically, and publish results in indexed issues recognised internationally; plan, design and manage scientific projects and supervise scientific theses responsibly in the pedagogy of higher education; promote progress in the pedagogy of higher education emphasizing sustainable development of knowledge society - independent work (publication with a presentation in an international conference).
Course Content(Calendar)
1.The concept and subject of Pedagogy science, subfield of Higher school pedagogy, its categories. Development of pedagogy of tertiary educations, its concept and principles in the 21st century in the context of self-directed studies; socioeconomic conditions, nature and spotlights of Bologna process competence based education – 6 h.
2.Education for sustainable development; nowadays conceptions of education in the context of life-long education, the pillars of education – 4 h.
3.21st century findings on competence/learning outcomes: paradigms, theories and practice. Competence based self-directed studies – 6 h.
4.Learning outcomes: knowledge, skills, competence, their nature and formulation in in the context of Bloom’s and/or SOLO taxonomies – 10 h.
5.Mentoring and tutors’ action: theories and practice – 4 h.
6.Contact with foreign students, intercultural communication, the process of acculturation – 4 h.
7.Approaches and theories of teaching at higher school; strategies for learning promotion. An academic staff member as a reflective professional; philosophy of learning and reflection, principles and features. Importance of understanding the nature of charisma and its features in teaching and in the development of academic staff – 8 h.
8.Teaching/learning theories: cognitive, constructive et al; modular approach of study process; findings of development of systemic and creative thinking. Classification of teaching/learning methods and student demands of their usage; lecture as one of the central methods in a higher school and methods for its enrichment, interactive and creative methods – 8 h.
9.Dialogue art and its meaning in communication. Dialogues as abasis of comprehension and a norm of life. Dialogue in a study process – 4 h.
10.The nature and usage of summative and formative assessment in a study process – 6 h.
11.Pedagogy of mass media. Didactical aspects of e-learning – 4 h.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The assessment of the study course examination depends on the evaluation of two independent works and presentation of the examination questions.
The assessment of two independent works takes place in accordance with the criteria laid down there in. The examination mark is the arithmetic mean among the assessments of two independent works and examination presentation.
