Course abstract
The objective of the course is to shear and exchange knowledge on innovative and environmental friendly regeneration of degraded areas. Within the course innovative approach of phytoremediation will be presented as a tool for cleaning and revitalizing of soils of degraded areas in Latvia and Lithuania. Master’s students from different disciplines - landscape architecture and planning, environmental science, land management, tourism, geography, etc. will work on real problems related to the generation of degraded areas in cooperation with local municipalities in Latvia and Lithuania.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
•Enhanced knowledge on regeneration of degraded areas methods and approaches
•Improved skills in discussion making, work in multidisciplinary groups and presenting ideas and project proposals to the local municipalities (LV and LT) •Competences in problem solving and decision making regarding potential of degraded areas by analysing theoretical materials and examples from the practice, by discussing problems with local municipality planners and inhabitants.
Course Content(Calendar)
1 Literature review on examples of revitalization of degraded areas at the distance learning stage.
2 Elaboration and analysis of draft paper. Carry out a critical analysis of the draft paper they will work on during the course, and submit a short report with their results. Detailed guidance on the framework for this review will be given in advance
3 Challenges and procedures of scientific publishing in landscape architecture area
4 How to increase academic writing skills, to develop strategies and practices to become more effective writer.
5 Principles and approaches of self-critical evaluation of elaborated article 6 Evaluation and analyses of draft papers elaborated by the participants of the course, improvement and preparation for the publishing in scientific journal.
Requirements for awarding credit points
Participants will finish the course with a Project idea / concept of revitolization of definite degradēt areas.
