Course abstract

The course deals with the scientific school of management and organization behavior thought and the latest relevant trends, choice options and their application in decision-making to manage organizations under the conditions of dynamism and uncertainty, as well as the process and functions of management in different types of organization’s in view of the conditions of the internal environment and environmental impacts (including resource constraints).The aim of the study course is to gain an in-depth understanding of the management process in an organization in order to be able to make decisions and manage organizations in difficult circumstances that require new strategic approaches.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge
1. Students will be able to: demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of management and organization theories, their application and connections with the elements of an organization internal and external environments and motivation- multiple choice test, an exam
2. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of management systems in organizations and the role of a manager in the decision-making process – a case study, group work, an exam
Professional skills
1. Explain to others the management process and the decision-making method - group work
2. Acquire information, develop and assess decision-making pathways involving new approaches - a case study, group work
3. Develop teamwork through creativity and leadership - group work

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Management and organizations, history of management. Conceptual content of management. Organizational theory: The essence of organizational theory, development of theories. (lectures 2 hours; practical work 2 hours)
2. Organizational environment as an object of management. External environment that influences management processes. Internal environment, creation of internal environment against external factors. (lectures 1 hour; practical work 2 hours)
3. Decision making in the organization. Decision making process. (lectures 3 hours; practical work 2 hours)
4. Organizational (management) functions in organizations. Structural functions in organizations. Structural organization approaches. Organizational process and coordination. (lectures 2 hours; practical work 1 hour)
5. The role of motivation and motivation as a management tool in organizations. Motivation as one of the management functions. Types of motivation and their application in organizations. (lectures 1 hour; practical work 2 hours)

6. The role of the leadership. Change Management Process. Organizational Development activities and their types. Organizational Development Techniques. Organizational Development Evaluation. (lectures 3 hours; practical work 3 hours)

Requirements for awarding credit points

The course includes a test, case analysis and group work to be performed during practical work in the classroom. At the end of the study course there is an exam - in the time provided for the exam.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Within the framework of the study course description for independent work is given 56 hours. Independent studies (work) are organized as follows: preparing for the test (16 hours); learning and preparing for case studies and group work (8 hours each); learning and preparing for the exam (24 hours).

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final grade in the study course is formed by:
20% test: conceptual framework of management and organization theories . The formation of the scientific school of management thought and relevant regularities
20% case studies: organizational environment as an object of management. External environment affecting organizations
20% group work: decision-making in an organization. Decision making techniques.

40% an exam: all study course topics
