MatZ5024, Uses of Wood in Structures I
Wood is a building material widely known in Europe as the construction of public buildings elements of a component. European countries conducted a study and design of the operational experience of a comprehensive analysis led to the establishment of structural design guiding principles. Important are the basic principles of fire safety and the use of wood in the construction of the fire safety point of view. Course provides EuroClassification system and regulatory rules in Latvia and Europe, as well wood composite materials, fire characteristics and review opportunities for improvement
Knowledge of wood as a construction material, the advantages and disadvantages of Fire perspective.
Knowledge of the timber structural and non-load bearing construction elements it uses (independent work and oral test). Skills to select appropriate materials and technology derived from the creation of a constructive solution and fire protection point of view (independent work and oral test). Competence find the best ecological and economically advantageous, as well as a correlation in terms of suitable wood design solutions (independent work and oral test)
1. Fire safety - concept and theoretical background (lectures 5 hours)
2. Euroclass classification system and regulatory environment in Latvia and Europe (lectures 5 hours)
3. Reaction to fire and fire resistance (lectures 5 hours)
4. Reaction to fire classes of construction products, their characteristics (lectures 5 hours)
5. Test methods for construction products, criteria for classification of construction products (seminars and practical classes 10 hours)
6. Wood burning process and factors affecting it (lectures 5 hours)
7. Fire protection of wood composite materials (seminars and practical classes 10 hours)
8. Opportunities to improve fire safety of wood materials and structures (lectures 5 hours, seminars and practical classes 5 hours)
9. Basic principles of fire safety in buildings with structural elements of wood (seminars and practical classes 5 hours)
Independent work regarding choice of the study subject and oral test should be defended
Independent work based on the one of the topics of study plan
The final evaluation of the study course consists of:
independent work - 90%; oral test - 10%
