The task of the course project is to create a sawmill project based on a specific technological process and an individual sawing schedule. The aim of the course project is to develop ability for calculation and compilation of sawing schedules and designing of sawmills.
Knowledge - to explain terminology of the sawmill industry and to understand the technologies used in sawmills.
Assessment - course project.
Skills - to perform calculations of feed speed and productivity for sawlogs and cants sawing, sawn timber edging and transport equipment of assortment and to choose the necessary technological equipment.
Assessment - course project.
Competence - to design work technology in sawmills.
Assessment - course project.
1. Selection of technological equipment and cutting tools and determination of their parameters (independent works 3 h)
2. Calculations of the feed speed for the cants sawing out of sawlogs (independent works 10 h)
3. Calculations of the feed speed for the cants breakdown (independent works 10 h)
4. Calculations of annual productivity of sawmill (independent works 4 h)
5. Calculations of the feed speed for the sawn timber edging (independent works 8 h)
6. Calculations of productivity and number of edging and crosscutting machines (independent works 4 h)
7. Designing of a sketch of technological plan (independent works 4 h)
8. Calculations of feed speed and productivity of transport equipment (independent works 8 h)
9. Calculations of technical and economic indicators (independent works 3 h)
10. Characterization of work organization and technology in sawmill (independent works 3 h)
11. Formation of the calculation part of the course project (independent works 12 h)
12. Formation of the graphic part of the course project (independent works 8 h)
13. Defense of the course project (independent works 3 h)
Course project must be developed, submitted for evaluation and validated.
The task of course project is prepared individually for each student. The task contains data of the brand names of sawlogs and cants sawing and sawn timber edging machines. The parameters that are not defined in the task should be independently selected by the students. Based on the task and sawing schedule calculated within the framework of course MatZ3057, sawmill project must be designed by students. Tasks are issued to students and students submit their course project only in an electronic form on the website of the e-studies of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies.
It is necessary to complete all tasks of the course plan in the course project and to answer the questions of the teaching staff in the defense of the course project. The grade is evaluated based on the number of completed tasks and relevance and answers to questions.
