Course abstract

Students get knowledge and skills of crocheting, different techniques and patterns of it, understand availability of different materials (including recycled materials) and usage of it by it's properties; are able to use different crochet technologies where appropriate (considering to usage of product, expenses, production time, matrials etc.) in practise by making collection of textiles or parts of it, as well as using crochet technologies to create different contemporary and practical products of design, are able to sintesize crocheting with other textile technologies

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Have a good knowledge in range of materials suitable for crochet, their properties; varoius crochet technologies; creation of models and pattern making; to make measuring and calculations of patterns; material costs and quantity calculations, work development time planning (inspiration presentation, sample catalog, product)
Can develop products/collection or their parts according to demands of project; choose appropriate materials, suitable techniques and technologies for concrete project as well as to sintesize crochet with other textile technologies; read and work out technological cards; analyze technologies of textile industrie, follow their development and tendencies (sample catalog, product, tablet in the synthesis of textile equipment)
Able to create long lasting product- practical and modern, cheaper produced, easy to care and easy to use. Able to work out technological cards un technological processes of product. Able to present own product (individual project)

1. Classification of crochet, types, materials and tools to be used - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (inspiration presentation)
2. Crochet with a crochet hook. Types of patterns - lecture 2 h, practical work 1 h (sample catalog)
3. Lace crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
4. Checkerboard stitches (granny square) - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
5. Shape crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
6. Synthesis of textile techniques - practical work 3 h (visual board)
7. Crochet on fabric. Types of decorative edges - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
8. Individual project - source of inspiration plant - practical work 3 h
9. Motif crochet. Irish laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 4 h (sample catalog)
10. Romanian point laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
11. Crochet by patterns, narrowing of the product, widening, shaping - lecture 1 h
12. Hairpin laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)

Requirements for awarding credit points

Worked out and presented all independent practical works

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Inspirational presentation on a specific topic (topic is choose by lot)
Catalogue of patterns (patterns crocheted with different materials: single crochet, half double crochet (crocheting behind the edge of the back loop), double crochet (crocheting behind the edge of the front loop), checkered crochet, crocheted shapes (circle and square / triangle), laces, motif crochet, Irish laces, crochet on fabric, romanian point laces, Tunisian crochet, hairpin laces.
Board textile synthesis 30x 30 cm, “Nature motif” (various techniques, materials, textures, effects). View of nature choose by lot.
Individual project - product, source of inspiration - plant / natural form (being choos by lot). The product must be functional, related to the plant (shape, color, structure, texture, etc.), crochet at least 50%. Research material, inspiration board, A3 visual board, advertising booklet.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Each work is evaluated in a 10-point system, the final evaluation consists of an average mark.
Criteria for evaluating practical works (9 or 10 points in total):
• compliance with the task 2 points,
• all conditions are met / contains all components 2 points,
• Quality 2 points
• color harmony, composition, proportions 2 points
• 1 point during inclusion
• Outstanding performance / innovation 1 point
