Course abstract

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the basic principles of writing a scientific publication and the variants of scientific publications. The course gives an idea of the content of publications structure and its separate parts. Questions are discussed about the research methodology and formatting styles of tables, figures and bibliography. The course is focused on questions about the different requirements of scientific journals and conference proceedings, as well as on the review manuscripts.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge - is able to show the depth or extends knowledge and understanding of the essential demands for scientific publications and the types of the scientific papers, and which provides the basis for applied research and fundamental research; is able to apply knowledge of IT research related to the cross discipline fields (the scientific paper structure is developed and presented in practical classes).
• skills – is able to independently use the theory, methods and problem-solving skills to carry out scientific publication, using research methodology knowledge. Is able to forcefully explain and discuss about the object of research and reasons for their choice for the particular IT problem at study (the research object characterization and justification of the choice is developed and presented in practical classes).
• competence – is able to independently formulate and critically analyze the IT industry complex research and professional problems, to carry out scientific publication (the research paper is developed and presented in practical classes).

8.Results of the study and their evaluation [L-1h;P-1h].
9.Evaluation of the results of research in specific environmental conditions and comparison with the findings of other authors [L-1h;P-1h].

11.Interpretation of scientific paper results [L-1h;P-1h].
12.Preparing the conclusions of the scientific paper [P-1h].

Requirements for awarding credit points

It is necessary to prepare a scientific paper and submit it to the journal or Organizing Committee of the Conference for its publication.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The organization of independent work during the semester is independently studying literature, using academic staff member consultations. During the study course, the development of individual works is not foreseen.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Assessment of learning outcomes (formal test with a grade) depends on the degree of development of individual sections of the paper. To obtain the minimal assessment, it is necessary to prepare research paper abstract and list of cited literature.
