Course abstract

The study course is intended to start the doctoral thesis, to identify scientific literature for the prelimenary analysis. After the prelimenary analysis of scientific literature doctoral student could be able to make conclusions on the achievement of tasks set in doctoral thesis.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge:
- manages and understands wide range of neccessary literature for the research of environmental engineering science
- knows the approach to reasearch, research opportunities and limitaions.
Evaluation - formulation of research task, selection of appropriate literature.
Skills:
- is able to choose independently the scientific methods necessary for research and apply them in the conduct of research;
- is able to identify the types of literature needed for the research, their availability (library resources, databases, scientific publications, etc.);
- is able to analyze collected literature sources.
Evaluation - types and number of selected literature sources.
Competences:
- identifies independently the sources of information needed for scientific research.
Evaluation - discussion with the supervisor.

Course Content(Calendar)

Doctoral student independently performs:
1. Identification of the literature sources necessary for the development of the doctoral thesis and compilation of a list of references.
2. Research and analysis of selected information.
3. Reporting on literature research results.
4. Submission of the list of literature sources and the overview to the supervisor.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Discussion with the supervisor about the researched references and literature overview during the course.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The doctoral student independently performs the tasks defined in the course plan and, if necessary, consults with supervisor.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Prepared literature analysis report for at least 30 sources of bibliography.
