Course abstract

The aim of the training practice is to strengthen knowledge and acquire practical skills in surveying-related work.
During the study practice, students strengthen their theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills in the work related to situation, vertical and topographic surveying. Students understand the principles of creating a survey justification, learn to measure angles, distances and determine point heights with the method of geometric leveling. Students learn tachymetry with theodolite and with an electronic tachymeter. Students are able to process measurement results, evaluate their accuracy and make plans and other graphic materials.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knows the inspection and adjustment of geodetic instruments, types of geodetic measurements and their execution, surveying methods and mathematical processing of geodetic measurements. Assessed by work in practice.
• Is able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice (install and measure horizontal, vertical and topographic surveying network, perform situation and relief surveying by various methods, evaluate the accuracy of the obtained measurements, process measurement results and compile situations, relief and topographic plan), work carefully and accurately , work both independently and in a team, draw up measurement logs, plans, profiles and other documents in accordance with the requirements. Assessed by work in practice.

• Able to independently obtain, select and analyze information necessary for the necessary surveying work, and use it, make decisions in accordance with their competence and solve problems related to the work to be performed, understand professional ethics, be able to assess the impact of their professional activities on the environment and society. Able to critically evaluate their knowledge and skills and understand the need for further education, bears responsibility for the quality of their work. Assessed by work in practice.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Installation of a network of topographic surveying points:
(a) reconnaissance of the polygon to be surveyed;
(b) creation of a network of horizontal surveying points by the polygon method: checking of instruments, fixing of points in polygon, measuring distances with a tape measure in two directions, determining inaccessible distance, measuring polygon angles with theodolite, calculation of polygon point coordinates, creation of polygon plan;
c) determination of vertical surveying support points by engineering leveling: leveling test, technical leveling of polygon approach points, calculation of point heights.
2. Tachymetry with theodolite and electronic tachymeter:
Determination of theodolite telemetry constant and coefficient. Determination of theodolite telemetry corrections. Zeroing and correction of the vertical arc. Tachymetric measurement of situation and relief by polar method. Drawing up and control of the plan.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Defense of study practice:

- Students present the logical course of study practice, discussions about the obtained results

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Students complete the study practice as a group by implementing the study practice tasks in accordance with the program and prepare documents for the study practice report;

After preparing the study practice report and submitting it to the supervisor, the study practice group takes the final test.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

In order to complete the study practice, the student must participate in the study practice every day, develop all the planned works and defend the study practice. The evaluation of the study practice depends on the results of the presentation of the results obtained during the study practice and their evaluation.
