Course abstract

Students get acquainted with the current legislation of the EU and the Republic of Latvia in the field of public procurement, regulation of construction planning, organization and management. Within the framework of the course project, the network schedule for the construction of a three-dimensional building is developed.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: is able to name, explain and apply legislation in the field of construction, normative acts of construction; construction work processes, technologies, is the understanding of the planning, organization and management of construction works on the construction site. - Practical works.
• Skills: are able to develop sections (calendar of construction works, master plan of construction works, technological scheme of construction works and quality assurance plan) of organization (execution) of construction works, acquired skills in planning and organizing construction works in construction objects - Practical works.
• Competence: is able to develop a project of planning and management of construction process. Able to comply with construction technology compliant performance technology, prepare and execute executive documentation. Able to supervise the construction process, to perform the technical and quality control of the completed work, to keep track of the completed works, to check the covered works, to control the executive documentation. - Practical works. Course Content(Calendar)

1. Study course and its studies. Familiarization with EU and Republic of Latvia legislation in the field of planning, organization and management of construction.
2. Introduction to the Law on Public Procurement of the Republic of Latvia. Getting acquainted with the building competition regulations and examples of offers. IUB.
3. Calendar planning methods for construction processes.
4. Graphical modeling of construction processes over time.
5. Flow method in construction. Graphic methods of flow design - line graphs, cyclograms, workforce resource schedules, network graphs.
6. Scheduling Rhythmic Flow.
7. Planning of non-rhythmic flow with equal rhythm shift.
8. Planning non-rhythmic flow with unmatched rhythms.
9. Scheduling a Diverse Flow Calendar.
10. Calculation of non-limiting flow by matrix method.
11. Construction of network graphics on a time scale for the construction of a three-dimensional building. Network graphics optimization.
12. Collection of materials and presentation of explanatory memorandum.
13. Calculating Network Graph in Table. Determining the critical path.
14. Calculating Network Graphics on Graphics. Determining the critical path.
15. Development of network graphics using MS Project.
16. Defending the course project. Analysis and evaluation of the course project.Industry news.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student must attend at least 85% of the class. Three tests must be written. Practical work should be developed. There must be submitted and defended the course project in accordance with the study program in the amount of 2 KP, passed the exam on the program issues. The student should regularly monitor changes in the legislation of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union in the field of construction.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Presentation on the topic of the report (at least 10 slides). Practical works.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the study course exam depends on the study course's test, the presentation and the cumulative assessment of the practical work.
The exam mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the test work marks, presentation marks, and assessment of the exam questions.
