The study course provides a detailed overview of tourism as a form of recreation and entrepreneurship, the historical development of tourism management, and the evolution of tourism management in the context of a systems approach and inter-organizational cooperation. Studying the development of tourism management complements students’ previously acquired theoretical knowledge, skills, and competences by linking them with the aspects of cooperation in the development and governance of the sector. During the course, students also acquire general skills in tourism planning.
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the historical development of tourism management and its evolution in the context of a systems approach and organizational cooperation.
Knowledge :
1. Students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of trends in tourism administration and cooperation between organizations in tourism resource administration – practical assignments.
2. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the system approach to tourism planning and analysis and the possibilities of private and public sector cooperation for tourism development – Test.
Professional skills:
1. Independently analyse tourism as an industry and a way of spending free time by applying the acquired knowledge of various aspects of tourism administration - practical assignments.
2. Reasonably explain and discuss the formation of cooperation for different kinds of tourism, applying the acquired knowledge of the system approach - independent work, presentation.
Soft skills:
1. Responsibly plan the completion of the assignments given, meeting the deadlines - practical assignments;
2. Acquire accurate information, prepare presentations and speak in public - independent work;
3. Participate in group work and discussions - discussions in forums.
Competence:
Independently analyse the different kinds of tourism and tourism as a system at both national and local levels and use theoretical findings on tourism systems in conducting applied research- test, practical assignments, independent work, presentation, discussions.

Part-time distance learning:
All topics specified for full-time studies are covered, but the number of contact hours is reduced to half of the number specified for full-time studies.
The course includes a test, which is scheduled during practical work in the classroom, and independent work and presentations, practical assignments and discussions in forums must be submitted within the time allotted for them.
The final assessment of the study course is a test, which the student can receive if all the work has been passed.
The study process in part-time distance learning is organised in accordance with the Order of the Vice-Rector for Studies No. 2.4.-8/54 On distance learning procedures at LBTU. Study courses are scheduled for each semester according to the study plan. The students learn the topics included in the study course independently, using the materials created and placed by the lecturer in the e-studies (Moodle). Feedback on the learning of lecture and seminar topics in distance learning is organised in the form of self-assessment tests, discussion forums and individual tasks, as well as in face-to-face or online consultations, lectures and final examinations according to the timetable.
Within the study course, the following time is allocated for independent work:
48 hours in full-time studies, organized as follows: preparation for the test (20 hours), preparation of the independent assignment and presentation (10 hours), and preparation of practical work at the specified times (18 hours).
64 hours in part-time distance studies, organized as follows: preparation for the test (20 hours), preparation of the independent assignment (10 hours), and preparation of practical work at the specified times and participation in forum discussions (34 hours).
Independent work is assessed according to the quality requirements for the specific tasks.
A student can receive a successful assessment in a test if at least 50% of the test questions are answered correctly.
