MākZB001 [GMAKB001] Form Design

Course abstract

The study course introduces the concepts of form design, its functional, decorative properties, materials and tools necessary for the work, provides an insight into the types and elements of forms. In practical works, a sense of form is developed, an understanding of proportions, different constructions, synthesis of reliefs, techniques and materials is improved; recycling variations, the ability to apply different materials and design possibilities in space and environment, to combine diverse materials, techniques, shapes, colors and design elements - in functional and aesthetic quality.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Understands the concepts of shape design, knows the materials and tools necessary for the work, manages the types of shapes, plastic elements, proportions and their coordination, recycling. Able to use knowledge of the creation of shapes in the plane and volume, various types of materials, techniques, applications of natural elements in the creation of shapes, etc. - theory Test.
Is able to choose and apply various materials, tools, visual, compositional, form construction, shaping elements and construction techniques and possibilities in the formation of forms in space and environment, creatively apply knowledge and skills in sketching, constructing and creating forms - Practical works.
Able to develop dimensional objects, integrating them into the real environment and space.Able to express oneself creatively by using diverse materials, the synthesis of techniques and forms, the types and possibilities of finishing objects, the functional and decorative features of design. Independent creative homeworks.

Part time extramural studies:

All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar

Requirements for awarding credit points

Examination requirements:
1. Visited contact lessons.
2. Developed and creatively accomplished practical works according to the themes and tasks-defended during classes (sketches, worksheets, tablets, creative works, spatial objects, elements, etc.), which are assessed with a mark in the 10-point system.
3. Self-contained homework and work presentation submitted and defended, rated 10 points in the system.
4. The theory test is passed, which is evaluated with a mark in the 10-point system.

5. Participation in the work show and work on the exposition at the end of the semester.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
