Course abstract
Information about development of waterpower use in Latvia. Technology and engineering for waterpower use to produce electricity. Characteristics and analysis for rivers hidrological regimes are given. Latvian rivers are evaluated for hydropower potential. Necessity to supply hydropower plant operation in natural run-off conditions. Hydropower and environmental flow.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
• Knowledge to understand physical esence to use water power. To know calculating potential river water power.
• Skills to make select of hydropower equipment, turbines and ģenerators. To design chambers for turbines. To calculate necessary cross – section of derivation canal and draining duct.
• Competence to work out project of hydro power plant. To manage evaluation, expertation and coordination of projects.
