Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to arouse students' interest in the economic problems of construction business, to acquaint them with the legal and economic bases of construction business, to acquaint students with the development of economically justified recommendations for improving construction companies, attracting investment and increasing their efficiency.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After the course studies the student will have:
• Knowledge - knowledge and understanding of the legal and economic bases of construction business;
• Skills - is able to orientate in problems related to business in construction, basic principles of construction company's accounting and analysis of economic activity, on the economic efficiency of investments;
• Competence - students are able to competently start a business in construction, independently make economically sound decisions.
Assessment: knowledge, skills and competence are assessed with 2 tests, practical work, presentation and final exam.

1. Introduction to the course "Construction Business II". Basics of construction business. Basic elements of the market, peculiarities of their activity in construction. (1h)
2 Types of construction business, legal issues of their establishment. (2h)
3 Organizational structure of the construction company. (1h)
4 Economic issues of design firms. Test. (2h)
5 Construction company income formation. (1h).
6 Turnover of construction company's operating costs. (1h)
7 Profit formation, its use in a construction company. Test. (2h)
8 Basic concepts of construction company accounting. (1h)
9 Financial statements of a construction company (2h).
10 Analysis of construction company financial statements. (2h)
11 Investments in construction business and factors influencing it. Justification of long-term operation of the company (1h)

Requirements for awarding credit points

Must have passed 2 tests on theoretical issues, practical work, submit and defend a presentation on the chosen topic, the course ends with exam, the assessment of which depends on the cumulative assessment of the semester.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Presentation on the topic of the report. 2. Practical works.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The student is able to prove the acquired knowledge and skills on construction business economics issues, making and defending a presentation (30%), completing 2 tests (20%) and practical work (20%), test (30%). The total grade is exam (100%).
