Course abstract
The course introduces students with agricultural systems, crops and livestock role in food production, and world food problems. Students analyze main principles of modern agriculture (tillage, crop production, animal husbandry) in connection with environmental problems. Students get problem-solving skills in crop diseases and pest limitation, pesticide, fertilizer and energy use in agriculture, as well as study sustainable agriculture principles.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
After completing the course students will have:
• knowledge and understanding of environmental problems caused by agriculture (such as pesticide pollution and increased nitrate levels);
• kills to analyze the most important sources of agricultural pollution; • competence to offer practical solutions to reduce agricultural pollution.
