| Course of forensic veterinary medicine instructs different types of inspection, their procedural base, general methodology and order of designation, rights, duties and responsibility of expert. Study course includes forensic veterinary thanatology, traumatology, toxicology, inspection of material evidence and documents, inspection of veterinarian’s professional offence and learn the order of veterinary forensic statement – practical works. | |

| • Knowledge: Students have to learn types of veterinary forensic inspection, their procesular base, order of designation, rights, duties and responsibility of experts.
• Skills: Ability to use veterinary forensics inspection methodology. • Competence: Ability to apply knowledge and skills analyzing veterinary forensic cases and ability to give answers to asked questions for expert. |

| 1.Procedural basis of forensic expertise. Legal and unlawful behavior. General methodology and designation of veterinary medical expertise. Expert's rights, duties and responsibilities. Statement of Veterinary Medicine Expert, procedure for giving it. Thanatology of forensic veterinary medicine, types, stages, causes of death. Cruelty against animals.
2.Forensic veterinary traumatology. Classification of mechanical injuries. Blunt and sharp force injuries. Traumatic injuries caused by gunshots. 3.Asphyxia and hypoxia. Types of mechanical hypoxia. 4.Heat loss in forensic veterinary medicine. Cooling and overheating. Freezing and burns. Electro trauma. 5.Forensic toxicology. Poisons and poisoning. 6.Examination of the veterinary documents. Animal welfare violations. 7.Veterinary professional misconduct and accident. Legal and illegal actions of a veterinarian, procedure for their examination. 8.Study tour at the State Centre for Forensic Medical Examination of the Republic of Latvia (VTMEC). |

| Requirements for awarding credit points | |
| Passed Clinical and Epidemiological Case Analysis (KEGA) work. Absence of lectures and practical work is not more than 20% of the total number of lessons. If missed lectures and practical works are more than 20% of the total number of lessons, then the course must be repeated. | |
| Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work | |
| Clinical and Epidemiological Case Analysis (KEGA) work on veterinary forensic case, providing correct answers to questions for veterinary expert. The work consists of recording, analyzing and describing the data provided in the materials for work in the appropriate sequence, which is acquired during the Forensic veterinary medicine course, in order to give conclusions and provide reasonable answers to the questions asked for the expert. Volume at least 10 p. After submitting the written form of work, it must be defended by individual discussions with the course supervisor. The work must be submitted and defended within the deadline set by the course supervisor | |
| Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
| Students' knowledge and skills are assessed in accordance with the procedures specified in the tasks of the practical works.
The KEGA workof the study course is evaluated in accordance with the 10 point system scale criteria indicated in the LLU Study Regulations. KEGA work must be scored with a successful grade in order to get the final grade of the study course "passed". |
