| Course abstract | |
| Course of general pathology is to provide understanding of the basic tissue responses to injury in animals with emphysis on pathogenesis, etiology and macroscopic and microscopic appearance. Students become familiar with circulatory disorders, cellular adaptation, extra- and intracellular accumulation, tumors, and their process morphology, pathophisiology, etiology, pathogenesis, gross pathology and microscopical changes. | |
| Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
| Knowledge: students have to understand and be able to explain following able to explain the following pathological processes: cell degeneration, amyloidosis, mineralization, pigment deposition, atrophy, metaplasia, hyperplasia, hypertrophy, circulatory disorders, shock and tumors–3tests.
Skills: students have to be able to recognize and describe tissue changes in wet tissues from necropsied animals and in images of gross lesions and be able to formulate morphologic diagnosis depending on the changes seen; students have to recognize basic pathologic processes in gross and microscopic tissue samples–practicals. Competency: according to acquired knowledge and skills discuss in groups and answer independently about pathologic cases using appropriate terminology, explaining pathogenesis of lesions, their causes and prognosis – home work. |

Inflammation– 5 h lectures and5 h practical works: •Atrophy, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia. •Types of degeneration. •Mineralization types. •Pigment. •4thtestabouttheme No 4. Theme No 5. Tumors– 6 h lectures and6 h practical works: •Structure of the tumors and biology (behavior). •Tumor growth dynamics, metastases, tumor effects on the body. •Tumor molecular pathogenesis and aetiology. •Tumor diagnosis and prognosis. •5th test about theme No 5. | |
| Requirements for awarding credit points | |
| To get the final grade of the study course, if:
1.Successful passed 3 tests and exam. 2.Student should get at least 70% from max point amount. Total point amount is formed from: •3tests (30 p. by each), •attendance in lectures and practical works (30 p.), •home works (number can be variable). 3.If student get less than < 70%, he will have extra test in the end of the semester. 4.It is obligate to attend in practical works. Only 1timepracticalworkcanbeskipedwithoutexcuses. Sick leave is acceptable for skip lesson. |

| Home works are evaluated in accordance with the tasks of the practical works. | |
| Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
| Total mark contains points of 5 tests (max.150 p.), examination (max.150 p.) and CECA (max.30 p.). Percentage of total points number is equalized to mark in 10 points system guided by LUA Study regulation (min to pass 50% = 4).
Students who got 135 and more points for tests, could do additional work and to receive 1 mark higher to the total assessment. The addition work includes independently prepare a high-quality electronic teaching material; the subject is coordinated with the teacher. This is not a mandatory requirement, but it is the student's choice. 10 mark = additional work 9 mark = from 315 to 330 p. 8 mark = from 295 to 314 p. 7 mark = from 262 to 294 p. 6 mark = from 229 to 261 p. 5 mark = from 196 to 228 p. 4 mark = from 165 to 195 p. |
