Course abstract
The aim of the study course is to learn the basics of car maintenance, conceptions and explanation of them, influence of several factors on technical condition of automobiles. Essential role in study course is dedicated to technical diagnostics of automobiles that is possible to acquire not only theoretically, but also practically during practical duties and laboratory actions with up-to-date technologies and equipment. Students acquire knowledge about the classification of motor fuels, oils and lubricants, their standards and use, as well as the properties and nuances of use of other automotive fluids.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledges - to identify automobile assemblies, potentialities and methods of technical support; are acquaint with various automotive diagnostic techniques and materials used during maintenance. Assessment - tests.
Skills - can evaluate the automobile and technical condition of its units; to choose the most appropriate diagnostic techniques and necessary equipment and materials; ability to use various advanced automotive diagnostic equipment. Assessment - tests and laboratory works.
Competence - students are able to use acquired knowledge and skills in planning and organization of automobile technical service and selection of equipment and materials. Assessment - accuracy of independent work.

1. Theoretical basics of qutomotive technical exploitation – 2h.
2. Impact of operating conditions on the technical condition of cars, classification of refusals – 2h.
3. Regularities of changes in the technical condition of the car – 2h.
4. Concept of purpose function and decision making methodology. Information with probable nature – 2h.
5. Impact of rolling stock quality on technical exploitation. Role and importance of rolling stock – 2h.
6. Managing the age structure of the vehicle fleet. Impact of employee qualification on technical exploitation – 2h.
7. Provision of vehicle workability information and technical diagnostics – 6h.
8. Forecast and evaluation of the technical condition of the car. Types of measurement errors – 2h.
9. Technical diagnostics of motor vehicles. Technical condition of vehicles, diagnostic norms, tasks and types – 6h.
10. Diagnostics and diagnosis of vehicles. Diagnostic tools and their classification – 8h.
11. Engine diagnostics equipment – 10h.
12. Methods for determining technical standards for car maintenance – 4h.
13. Determining the labor-intensity of maintenance and technical repairs – 2h.
14. Types of fuels, their properties, test methods and equipment – 4h.
15. Classification of engine oils and transmission oils. Oil properties, additives – 6h.
16. Other automotive fluids, their properties, use – 4h.
Requirements for awarding credit points
Independent and laboratory works must be developed and accepted. Tests must be completed with a score of at least 4. Examination.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Independent work. Selected one of the technical support or diagnostic activities offered by the lecturer, in-depth research and detailed description of this activity (in PowerPoint or video format). Preparation for tests and laboratory works. Preparation of laboratory reports.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The tests are counted if at least 4 are scored. The test evaluation criteria indicate a specific score for each correctly answered test question.
Laboratory works are counted if laboratory reports are developed and successfully defended.
Independent work is assessed by the grade and completeness of their development. The examination test may be omitted if all the tests have been successfully completed during the semester, the laboratory work has been defended and the independent work has been developed.
