Course abstract |
Study course is divided into two blocks - the forest seed production and growing of forest planting material. Learning of production of Latvian indigenous and introduced forest tree species seed characteristics Seed picking methods, the storage conditions necessary for maintenance of seed germination. Vegetative propagation. Main nursery tasks, forms, site selection, preparation of soil and crop rotation. Main tree species and seedling production cycle management of container seedling and bare root seedling technology on field and greenhouse conditions. Planting stock quality assessment. |
Learning outcomes and their assessment |
The study course develops knowledge and understanding of the forest tree production at Forest tree nurseries, including seed picking, quality, storage and growing of planting material, as well vegetative propagation methods of plants. The course enables students with an ability to choose qualitative planting material and togrow seedlings if it necessary. The course elaborates competence to use right planting material for forest regeneration and to work at forest nursery. |
