Course abstract
The aim of the study course is to acquire the theory of general (typical) machine elements (part and units), engineering calculations and design, present engineering knowledge for creative machine design work, develop engineering thinking, initiative and creation, to apply the existing ideas and to search for new ones, to modulate using analogues.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge - know the criteria for workability of machines, machines and parts, selection of materials and design methods, knowledge of the design-related standards (ISO, LVS, DIN) - exam.
Skills - how to choose a technical method to address tasks, use manuals and standards for practical tasks - 1 laboratory work task.
Competence - capable of modulating tasks in machine science, addressing technical tasks and conducting independent studies, is a knowledgeable, informed and capable professional – 5 practical work tasks.

Requirements for awarding credit points
Course assessment is formed follows:
• all practical work tasks must be submitted and graded (30%);
• lab task must be submitted and graded (20%);
• exam must be written and successfully graded (50%).
Credit points are assigned if the rate weighted average score is at least grade 4.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Students must independently solve five practical work tasks, as well as perform calculations for the successful execution of laboratory work. Students prepare themselves for the exam on the subject of lectures.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The mark is formed as the weighted mean of the results of practical work tasks, lab task and the exam.
