Course abstract
Students will obtain knowledge, skills and competence on structure, chemical properties and their alteration influence of cell or environment of bioorganic substances (lipids, membranes, vitamins, carbohydrate, amino acids, proteins, nucleotides, heme, and nucleoproteins) on the base of reaction mechanisms on molecular level, as well as alteration of these properties by mutual interaction that is necessary for further studies of biochemistry, physiology of animals and specialization courses.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Studies will form the base of fundamental knowledge for studies of biochemistry and further studies of veterinary, e.g., physiology of animals, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, and professional studies – 1., 2., 3., and 4. Test. The skills to make use of theoretical point of view on structure and common chemical properties of bioorganic compounds to both biochemistry study, and further veterinary studies and in the solving of professional problems, as well as skills to create hypothesis and their possible solutions on the base of empirical data and recent theoretical cognitions - laboratory works. The competence will be developed to students to be able to collect, select, analyze and generalize the information on problems of animals or environment to be created by bioorganic substances and to project path and method to overcome or to prevent it, as well as the competence to explain progress of biochemical reactions on the molecular level both specialists, and clients – colloquium, home works.

Requirements for awarding credit points
Completed exam in the Inorganic Chemistry, 7.laboratory works, and 4 tests have been completed and no lower mark in tests than 4 points.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Preparation of laboratory reports - compilation and systematization of chemical reactions, observation, conclusions and experimental progress.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
It is necessary to write successfully all tests, i.e. no lower mark than 4 points. All laboratory protocols and home works must be checked and completed.
