Course abstract
Students learn in-depth the text editor MS Word - learn how to professionally create and format large-scale documents; learn the work with the electronic table MS Excel - learn how to make calculations, use composite functions, create graphs and work with the database; learn the work with the presentation program MS PowerPoint – learn to prepare and present presentations. The acquired knowledge is necessary for the development and presentation of study papers, as well as the ability to use information technologies in carrying out their professional activities.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
As a result of the study course students acquire:
• knowledge of the use of the text editor for document creation, the use of the presentation tool and the use of the spreadsheet for data processing;
• Skills to be able to formulate and analyse information, problems and solutions in the hotel and restaurant industry using the acquired theoretical and practical foundations; • competence: to independently obtain, select and analyse information and, using information technology, make decisions and solve problems in the hotel and restaurant sector. Ability to use the text editor, presentation creation tool and electronic table for data processing.
Course Content(Calendar)
1. Creation of a Title page. Tabs signs, their usage in document formatting.
2. Formula writing using Equation structures. Visualization using the SmartArt graphics.
3. Using styles for large-scale document formatting, style modification and defining.
4. Inserting and using bookmarks. Automatic numbering of images and tables, insertion of references into a document.
5. Creation of Table of Contents and Index; creation automatic content of images and tables.
6. Test. Large-scale document processing.
7. Creation of data series (linear, growth, date, user) and calculations in tables.
8. Use of absolute, relative and mixed addresses in formulae. Use of the simple and most commonly used functions in calculations.
9. Compilation of functions. Introduction to cell restrictions.
10. Graphs. Creating, modifying and deleting of graphs.
11. Work with the database: new data input, data sorting. Selecting data using the filters.
12. Formatting and arrangement of the data in tables according to the different conditions. Getting Intermediate Results (Subtotal) and Grouping Data in Data Sheet Tables.
13. Creation of Pivot Table and chart.
14. Data selection or filtering using the criteria rectangle and advanced filter.
15. Work with multiple tables: links between tables. Data consolidation. 16. Test. Use of the electronic table for data processing.
Requirements for awarding credit points
Formal test with a grade.
Grading includes:
• Successfully passed two tests - 1st test: use of MS Word for large-scale document processing; 2nd Test - Use of MS Excel for data processing;
• Created and submitted report, following the methodological rules developed by the PTF;
• Created and submitted presentation of the prepared report;
• All practical work has been developed and submitted; • Test of theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the study course.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Independent work. After the methodological rules developed by the PTF, a report (a volume of at least 10 pages, submitted electronically) has been prepared and submitted and a presentation has been created that is developed within the framework of the study course "Hospitality Companies".
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The cumulative assessment of the study course depends on the study course's practical tests, independent work and the theoretical test.
