Course abstract
The aim of the study course is to gain the skills to use transformer power choice methods, taking into account the specificity of the load type; schemes of power stations and substations; short-circuit current calculation methodology; the conditions under which to select substation equipment; electric power loss calculation methodology in substations.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Knowledge - on the transmission network structure, construction and the elements, the types and importance of power plant and substation to the power supply.
Skills - to make the necessary electrical parameters calculations and estimates to choose the transmission equipment facilities (transformer, circuit breakers, etc.).
Competence - to evaluate power supply equipment conformity to engineering calculations from the point of view of the technical and economic aspects in the project phase and in operation phase.
Course Content(Calendar)
Full time intramural studies:
1. The choice of the theme of the course work, the formulation of goals and tasks, 2h.
2. Describe section development, 5h.
3. Creation of load graphic, 4 h.
4. Selection of the transformer according to the load estimation power, 2 h.
5. Selection and design of the substation scheme, 3 h.
6. Short circuit current calculation, 3 h.
7. Selection of 110 kV circuit breakers and disconnectors, 2 h.
8. Selection of 110 kV instrument transformers, 2 h.
9. Selection of 110 kV buses, 2 h.
10. Selection of 20, 10 or 6 kV circuit breakers, 2 h.
11. Selection of 20, 10 or 6 kV disconnectors, 2 h.
12. Selection of 20, 10 or 6 kV instrument transformers, 2 h.
13. Selection of 20, 10 or 6 kV buses, 2 h.
14. Selection of self-transformer and its protective equipment, 2 h.
15. Electricity loss calculations at substations, 4 h.
16. Defense of the course work, 1h.
Part time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
1st homework. Design of load graphs, choice of transformer power.
2st homework. Short circuit current calculation.
3st homework Electro-dynamic and thermal calculations in the case of short-circuiting.
4st homework. Choice of substation equipment, taking into account electrodynamic and thermal conditions.
5st homework. Selection and protection of the self-consumption transformer, calculation of electricity losses.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The evaluation of the course work is carried out in accordance with the tasks set in the initial stage of the course project. In the course work must correctly comply with all the relevant formulas and, in accordance with the results obtained, properly select the substation equipment.
