Course abstract
The plant biotechnology methods and possibilities of application Suitability of plant products for consumption. Biotransformation of photosynthesis products. Classical biotechnology: biotechnological production of ethanol, amino acids, vitamins and other compounds. Environmental biotechnology: biogas production, mushroom cultivation, wastewater treatment, compost, microbiological preparations. Plant cell and tissue cultures. Genetic engineering, essence, perspectives and problems. Perspectives of plant biotechnology in agriculture.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
Students gain knowledge about the acquisition and transformation of plant products, quality regulation options, biodegradation - tests, laboratory works Students are able to determine the most important possibilities of plant biotechnological transformation - tests, laboratory works Students are able to assess the factors that are able to influence and change the quality of agricultural products, understand their impact on crops - laboratory work.

Requirements for awarding credit points
The final grade (exam mark) consists of the grades of tests and defended laboratory works.
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work
Reports on laboratory works and explanation of the obtained results. Independent work in preparation for tests.
Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes
The exam is taken after the laboratory work has been completed and the tests have been successfully passed. The final mark consists of evaluations of 50% of classical biotechnology (tests and laboratory works) and 50% of modern biotechnology.
