Course abstract | |
The role of land use and farming in historical development of Latvian rural landscape and country estate. Historical country estate, its features and elements, zones, spatial structure of landscape, impact of traditions and economic activities. Contemporary country estate – similarities and differences with traditional country estate, basic planning principles. | |
Learning outcomes and their assessment | |
After completing the course student will have:
• knowledge of Latvian nature factors influencing human’s economic activities and development of Latvian cultural landscape; knowledge of regional landscape features in the context of country estate – location of buildings and other elements, use of plants, economic activities, traditions; • skills to assess the role of human and nature elements in establishment of social, aesthetic, ecological and functional qualities of landscape; skills to plan landscape of country estate – zones of the territory, location of buildings, elements, plants – according Latvian regional particularities, aesthetic, ecological and functional requirements; • competence to evaluate significance of landscape and nature heritage in the development of national economy and visual quality of Latvian rural landscape. |
