Course abstract | |
Students gain in-depth knowledge of the essence, functions and methods of human resource management in an organization, as well as the necessary competencies and ethical principles in performing the work tasks of a career counsellor. Students build up an understanding of the role and processes of human resource management; they can elaborate and evaluate a human resource management strategy to achieve the goals of the organization. Students develop the skills to organize client-cantered career guidance and promote the career counsellor’s own professional growth and activities in accordance with professional ethics and competency standards in various human resource management processes. Goal – to acquire in-depth knowledge, skills and competencies for the professional activities of a career counsellor in human resources management. | |

Knowledge:
•Comprehensive knowledge of the functions, methods and trends of human resource management, as well as the role of a career counselor and the tasks to be performed in human resource management. - Independent works, practical assignments •Specialized knowledge of human resource management processes in an organization and the competencies and ethical principles required for a career counsellor in providing client-centered career support in various human resource management processes. Generational characteristics and trends in human resource management. Characteristics, values and expectations of traditionalists, baby boomers, X, Y and Z generations in the work environment. Challenges in generational management. (1 hour) 5. Organizational culture. Elements that make up organizational culture and their impact on employee performance. Organizational values. (1 hour) 6. Formulation and implementation of human resource strategy. Human resource policy and strategy development. Methods and tools for determining and implementing human resource strategy. (1 hour) 3. Group work: portrait of Y and X generation employee. The challenges of managing these generations in organizations. (1 hour) 4.Case study: human resource management problems and the causes at enterprise X. (1 hour) 5. Role game: Simulation of a job interview. (1 hour) 6. Situation analysis on the involvement of employees in the work – challenges and opportunities. (1 hour) 7. Situation analysis: analysis of team work and solutions how to make effective team work. (1 hour) 8. Test: behavioral styles. (1 hour) 9. Flexibility test of employees. (1 hour) 10.Test: Determination of socionic types (1 hour) 11. Independent work (presentation): characteristics and an assessment of a human resource strategy for a chosen organisation (2 hours) 12. Discussion: The mission and tasks of a career counsellor in the lives of individuals and the development of society. (1 hour) 13. Group work: The diverse roles of a career counsellor in different human resource management environments. (1 hour) 14. Situation analysis: The impact of social, political and economic factors on the work of a career counsellor. (1 hour) 15. Independent work: Professional identity of a career counselor. (2 hours) 16. Situation analysis: Moral problems and dilemmas in career counseling in human resource management. (1 hour) 17. Solutions to career support problem situations in human resource management: value conflicts with the client; the role of values in career counseling work; evaluations of judgments in solving ethical dilemmas. Requirements for awarding credit points | |
All practical assignments (including discussions, situation analyses and group work) was completed in the auditorium, four independent works were submitted (two of them - a speech presentation) and a test was written. All works were successfully assessed. | |
Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work | |
The total number of hours of independent work, i.e. 114 h which is divided as follows:
1. Independent work (situation analysis) for company “X” on problems and their causes in human resources management – 17 h. 2. Independent work (presentation) on the characterization and assessment of human resources strategy in a selected organization – 20 h. 3. Independent work (situation analysis) on the professional identity of a career counselor in an organization – 17 h. 4. Independent work (presentation) on the evaluation of the professional activities of a career counselor in human resources management – 20 h. Preparation for the exam – test – 40 h. |

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes | |
The final grade for the study course depends on the cumulative grade of all four independent works and the test, which is written in the classroom during the time allotted for the exam. The test grade makes up 40% of the total grade for the study course. The remaining 60% is made up of the grades for the independent works. A successful final grade for the study course is obtained if at least 60 points out of 100 maximum points are obtained. | |
