Course abstract

Students are got acquainted with Latvian and European Union veterinary legislation. The third part of the course gets perception of organisation of veterinary official controls, organisation of veterinary practices, the veterinarian's role in society and local and international cooperation.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge - of the role of the veterinarian and insight in professional legislation - rights, duties and responsibilities of practitioners, official veterinary controls.
Skills - to deal with legislative acts, laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia and European Union. To make veterinary documentation. Case studies during practical lessons.
Competence - to have excellent cooperation with animal owners, Food and veterinary service, veterinary practitioners, colleagues in Latvia and other countries.

6. Latvian Association of Veterinarians. The veterinary certificate, entitlement to practice 2 h
7. National veterinary and food supervision, its tasks. 1 h
8. Related areas of Veterinary Science. Science of Veterinary medicine. Laboratory testing, reference functions. 4 h

Requirements for awarding credit points

Successfully defended Clinical and epidemiological Case analysis and successfully passed exam.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Clinical and Epidemiological Case Analysis (KEGA) work on the course offered of the supervisor. To make the ethical and legal analysis.
Content of Analysis work: Introduction; Description of the case or description of problem; Case analysis (description of the action based on laws and regulations). After the submission of the analysis work written part, on the end of the course should be present oral with max. 10 min. PowerPoint presentation, expressing the main information about topic, answering the questions and justify provided information
The deadline when Analysis work must be submitted and defended determine course supervisor.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

KEGA work are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the LLU Study Regulations.
To be admitted to the exam must be successfully defend the clinical and epidemiological analysis of cases.
Exam – written test with 50 questions, evaluated on 10 ball scale, the lowest successful mark is granted if correctly answered 60% of all of the questions.
