Course abstract

The student must prepare information about the topics included in the state exam, which are formulated in specific test questions and theoretical descriptions of clinical cases or situations. During the exam, students are tested for their theoretical preparedness level and their ability to use their knowledge to think of animals as a single organism in the treatment, prevention and external environment, the quality of food from obtained from animals, the control of transmittable diseases and the use of regulations.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knows animal anatomy, organ structure and physiology, causes of disease, pathogenesis, clinical and laboratory diagnosis, clinical signs, treatment and prevention; knowledge of the legislation on the use of medicinal substances in the treatment of animals and prevention, as well as in the performance of forensic veterinary examination and preparation of documentation. –Test.
The ability to communicate comprehensively and convincingly with the public on professional issues, to manage one's activities in accordance with the existing legislation, based on the observance of ethical, evidence-based principles that promote public health and safety. - Case study
The ability to collect anamnesis data about the patient, to perform clinical examinations of animals; to prepare samples for laboratory analysis and to interpret the obtained results, to make a diagnosis, to perform safe and appropriate fixation of animals and medical manipulations, to provide emergency veterinary medical assistance; perform animal autopsy for diagnostic purposes, data recording, tissue sampling, storage and transport. - Case studies

Requirements for awarding credit points

All requirements for the study program must be acquired and successfully passed in advance; State exam in a combined form: test with 100 theoretical questions and an oral answer about the analysis of a given case or situation.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Repeat the previously acquired material relating to the questions included in the exam.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

1)Written part - a test with 100 questions, to which at least 65% of correct answers must be given, and 2) oral part - analysis of the situation, which must be answered in the State Examination Commission. Both parts must be passed with a passing grade. The exam mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in the test and situation analysis, rounding the decimal places in the direction of the test mark. The mark of the state exam is an evaluation on a 10-point scale according to the LLU Study Regulations. The results of the state examination are approved by the State examination commission.
