Course abstract

Study subject Toxicology consists of two parts: basic and special toxicology. Toxicology is the basic study course of Veterinary Medicine. General aims of basic toxicology question study are following: definition of question (and terms); interpretation and analyses of process; practical use of knowledge, examples. General aims of special toxicology question study are following: etiology of toxicosis, epidemiology; pathogenesis, clinical findings; diagnosis (clinical and laboratory), differential diagnosis; course of disease, prognosis; treatment and prophylaxis (control).

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have:
● knowledge about distribution, influence and elimination of poisonous substances; causes, pathogenesis, clinical findings, laboratory diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of toxycosis
● skills to obtain anamnesis of intoxication, to make clinical examination of animals, to prepare proper samples for laboratory examination, to make a differential diagnosis of dangerous poisoning, to perform the special and general treatment procedures of poison animals
● competent to explain the course of intoxication, to establish diagnosis of intoxication, perform the special and general treatment of poison animals, to prepare the plane of control of intoxication in production animal unites and limitations of application of treated animal products in human nutrition.
