Course abstract

Students develop and assess knowledge and skills on: communication structure, types and models; rhetoric as the art of public speech and theory of persuasion; visual, vocal and verbal components of a message and successful usage of them during presentation; effective speech elements and presentation styles. The students acquire the strategy and tactics of polemics, discussion and argumentation as well as the ability to make public presentation, attract and keep attention, persuade and manage debates. Common mistakes of the orator and analysis of the audience are emphasized in the course.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge: to comprehend, analyse and assess theories and conceptions on:communication structure, types and models; rhetoric as the art of public speech and theory of persuasion; rhetoric triangle: logos-ethos-pathos; psychological aspects of communication, self-regulation of psyche in the process of presentation; peculiarities of the orator's and audience interface.
• Skills: to use knowledge in independent and practical assignments, and making one's own presentations; to present in front of the audience using various tactics and strategies.
• Competence: to be able to use rhetorics knowledge and skills in various situations in order to promote pupils ability to create new knowledge, skills and competence and positive interface; to be able to cooperate with the pupils; to be able to perform in various audiences delivering information appropriately; to be able to develop one‘s competence and innovative solutions in making presentations.
