Course abstract

At the first part students learn Latvian and European Union legislation on consumer protection - regulations, directives, rules, and rules. Course of the second and third part consists of an insight into consumer society’s economic principles, as well as psychological aspects of education and population issues. Practical work is in the form of seminars looking at various practical examples related to the law on consumer protection.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After studying the course the student will
• knowledge and critical understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of consumer policy
• skills to formulate, critically evaluate and use the basic knowledge in practical work – a regulatory framework for consumer policy, consumer society and the basic principles of consumer behaviour
• competence to make decisions regarding relations with consumers, prediction of consumer behaviour.
