In the study course, students get acquainted with the structure of materials used in mechanical engineering, physical and mechanical properties, marking, heat treatment methods and application. Learns to determine the mechanical and technological properties of materials develop methodology and perform heat treatment. Gains skills in recognizing materials, choosing, making specific machine parts.
Knowledges - properties of mechanical engineering materials and their relation to the structure - 1st test; influence of heat treatment on properties - 2nd test;
Skills - to recognize materials according to their chemical composition, to develop heat treatment technology, to find application - laboratory works; Competences - rational choice of materials in specific operating conditions and possibilities of changing material properties using heat treatment – home work.

Type of examination - written exam.
Developed and defended laboratory works; homework submitted and credited within the term; the number of missed lectures does not exceed 10% of the total number of lectures.
Students complete 3 home works on the choice of materials in specific conditions, on the possibilities of changing the properties of materials and the applied heat treatment.
Study results are evaluated according to the completion of laboratory work, homework results, and quality of tests and successfully passed the exam.
