Course abstract

Part I of the study course is an introduction to the types of fine art — painting, graphic art drawing and sculpture. It provides a deeper insight into the genres and techniques of painting, as well as ensures an introduction to the most well-known foreign and Latvian artists and their creative works. The practical sessions consolidate the knowledge and skills concerning the acquisition and application of the different techniques of painting.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge - of monumental painting, easel sculpture, miniature painting; knowledge of the types of genres — landscape, portrait, still life, marine etc.; knowledge of the techniques —fresco, encaustic, oil, water-color, crayon, distemper etc.
• Skills – to evaluate and analyze work of art according to the set criteria, to apply the basic principles of design, the fundamentals of color theory, the decorative and functional aspects of materials, different techniques of fine art for the development of creative works.
• Competence – ability to understand the types, genres and techniques of fine art and the materials to be used. The ability to prepare the methodological visual aids and theoretical materials on different themes of fine art, necessary for the classes of Visual Art.
