Course abstract

Purpose of sheep breeding and methods of realisation. Qualitative and quantitative indications, perception potentialities and assessment. Structural elements of sheep breeds. Setting pedigree value of sheep and control of production capacity. Sheep selection conducive factors. Development and realisation of breeding programmes.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

MA course students acquire deeper knowledge in the following fields: 1) sheep breeding methods used for the purpose of diverse produce; 2) assessment criteria of breeding indications for sheep of different age and gender; 3) development of breeding programmes and analysis of results.
Acquired skills: 1) selection of the most appropriate sheep breeding methods for a particular type of sheep; 2) assessment of breeding indications for sheep of different age and gender; 3) development of breeding programme and analysis of the acquired pedigree results.
Master student is competent: 1) to evaluate sheeps age and sex, 2) to advise and manage breeding programs, 3) to organize research for development of the sheep industry.
