Course abstract

Master students get the knowledge in characteristics of farm animal species in blood groups and protein polymorphism. Assess the practical applications in pedigree control by genetic methods and control it in connection with productivity levels. The course introduce with the immunogenetic methods, genetic manipulation with domestic animals semen, ova and embryos. Acquire understanding about of animal cloning and gene technical methods of genome analysis and analysis of birth defects. Become awareness in the farm animal genetic resources maintenance.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have: Knowledge: the more deepened knowledge in farm animal breeding prospects and use up-to-date reproductive and molecular biotechnology methods. Skills: will be able to independently choose the most appropriate methods of biotechnology for his herd reproduction and getting advisable genetic gain as well as to evaluate the rise of immunogenetics from narrow subject of Inheritance of blood groups to science for genetic manipulation of farm animal ova and embryos.Competences:master students will get competence to assess farm animal breeding and biotechnology by use molecular genetics techniques, as well as to analyze the scientific literature and discuss on this topic.
