Course abstract

Students get acquainted with the processing of crude oil. They obtain knowledge about fuel specifications, standards and use, the burning of fuel in Otto and diesel-motors, determination of octane and cetane number. Students acquire the lubricants’ classification system in the world (SAE, API, ACEA, ISO, NLGI), as well as the choice principles of lubricants.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• knowledge in the processing of crude oil, in fuel specifications, standards and use, the burning of fuel in Otto and diesel-motors;
• skills in determination of octane and cetane number and usage the lubricants’ classification system in the world;
• competences in the choice of lubricants.
