JurZ2005, Basics of Law
The course provides knowledge of the basic concepts of property law and explains the substance of it. The course deals with the ways of acquisition of a property and the termination of ownership of the property, and the students build up skills in exercising ownership rights to the property and registering the ownership of the property. The course also provides knowledge of encumbrances of a property and servitudes.

3. Main and auxiliary properties, the legal regulation thereof (lecture - 1 h, practical assignment - 1 h).
4. Encumbrances on property and related expenses (lecture - 1 h, practical assignment - 1 h).
5. Concept and substance of possession (lecture - 1 h, practical assignments - 2 h).
6. Concept and content of ownership rights (lectures - 2 h, practical assignments - 2 h).
7. Property protection mechanism (lectures - 2 h, practical assignments - 2 h).
8. Concept and classification of servitudes (lectures - 2 h, practical assignments - 2 h).
9. Real servitudes (practical assignment - 1 h).
10. Personnel servitudes. Real charges (practical assignment - 1 h).
11. Collateral rights, the concept of collateral (lectures - 2 h, practical assignment - 1 h).
12. Securing obligations within the meaning of property law (lecture - 1 h).
13. Mortgage (practical assignment - 1 h).
14. Concept of the right of redemption (lecture - 1 h).
15. Interpretation of property law in the context of civil proceedings (lecture - 1 h).
The student must pass 2 tests on relevant topics and participate in practical classes. The student also must successfully complete independent work and practical assignments as well as pass an examination.
The student must participate in and complete independent group work on the ways of acquisition of a property and the termination of ownership of the property.
The total assessment consists of 2 tests (25% weight each) on general matters pertaining to real property and property law as well as an examination (50% weight).
