Course abstract

The aim of information systems practice is to practically strengthen the theoretical knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in the study courses and to give students the opportunity to clarify their field of interest for selecting the topic of bachelor's theses, as well as for further professional or scientific activities. During the practice, the student performs practical or scientific work in the development or supply companies of the information technology sector, as well as in institutions related to ICT education.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knows about performing the duties of an information and communication technology specialist in real conditions of program development or maintenance of information systems (practice journal).
Is able to select adequate methods and tools for solving the specific task, prepare software requirements specification, develop design, code, debug and test programs, as well as perform information system maintenance work, use modern software development methods, techniques to create, maintain and ensure continuous operation of IT infrastructure or provide various ICT services (practice report, practice manager's review).
Able to solve tasks individually or working in a group, as well as convince others and argue their point of view (practice report, practice defence, practice manager’s feedback).

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Selecting the company for practice. Preparation and submission of practice documents. Conclusion and coordination of the practice agreement. (12h)
2. Acquaintance with the rules of the company's work schedule, safety equipment and work hygiene requirements, work protection and fire safety, as well as other rules. (8h)
3. Fulfilment of practice tasks according to the instructions and requirements of the practice manager. (420h)
4. Regular filling of the practice electronic journal. (12h)
5. Obtaining feedback from the practice manager. (8h)
6. Preparation of practice report. (8h)
7. Preparation of practice presentation. (8h)
8. Defence of practice. (4h)

Requirements for awarding credit points

Successfully completed practice tasks at the chosen organisation and defended the practice.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Honest completion of practice tasks and duties in accordance with the instructions and defined requirements of practice managers.
During the practice, the student must regularly fill in the practice journal using the ITF practice information system.
At the end of the practice, the student must prepare a practice report and presentation.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Throughout the practice, the information entered by the student is controlled by the ITF practice manager and the company manager.
The practice manager of the company prepares a review of the student's work during the practice.
The student defends the practice evaluated by the ITF commission in the presence of the student group.
A student gets a positive evaluation if the following conditions are met:
• practice has been learned in full;
• the practice journal is completely filled out;
• a practice report has been prepared and submitted;
• there is a positive feedback from the practice manager of the company;
• the practice has been defended.
