Course abstract
State-of-art, history and development of the irrigation in the world and role in food production. Overview on the irrigation methods, soil water balance and water requirement of the crops. Types of the irrigation systems, sprinkler irrigation. Irrigation water management (pump stations, water supply lines, water sources). Construction works of irrigation systems in Latvia.
Learning outcomes and their assessment
The course develops:
• Knowledge and understanding about state-of-art of irrigation in the world food production and perspectives of development of the irrigation in EU and Latvia.
• The course enables students with an ability to find best technical solutions for the soil moisture control,.
• The course elaborates competence on application of the most popular irrigation methods and practice that students can then use in research approaches in the preparation of Master thesis on irrigation.
