Course abstract

Maintenance, management and role of the land reclamation systems in agriculture. Digital cadastre of land drainage. Maintenance requirements for the main drains, drainage channels, pipe drainage systems and hydro technical structures. Control and measurements for evaluation of the performance of the drainage, channels , main drains and structures. Obstacles of the performance of main drains, subsurface drainage systems and structures. Repairments and renovation. Legislation of EU and Latvia considering the land use, drainage and subsidiary payments for farmers.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. The course develops specialized knowledge about maintenance of water reclamation systems.
2. The course enables students with the skills to find relevant solutions and best methods for maintenance, renovation, and improvement of water management systems e.g. drainage, irrigation, polders, hydro technical structures.
3. The course elaborates competence to use knowledge about technologies and methods that students can use in practical work regarding maintenance of water management systems to elaborate their MSc works and research approaches considering maintenance and renovation of land reclamation systems.
