Course abstract

Students will develop in-depth understanding about agriculture and rural development policy within EU and its implementation in Latvia. EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is developing and several reforms are taking place, therefore it is crucial to understand the results of the reform implementation, support system’s theoretical and practical aspects in Latvia.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge – master students obtain profound knowledge on and an understanding of the latest trends in agricultural and rural development policies in the EU, their implementation in Latvia, and their financial instruments – EU support and national subsidies, terms of their use, and varied legislations, which ensures a professional understanding of economic prospects for the industry; skills – master students are able to use their theoretical knowledge to tackle practical professional problems, participate in discussions and justifiably discuss complicated aspects of agricultural economics and policy with both professionals and non-professionals. competences – master students are competent in independently formulating, planning, forecasting, and analysing possibilities of an enterprise to attract national and EU support in the most appropriate way by exploiting the latest conditions of legal acts.
