Course abstract

Course of study contributes to analyse and to evaluate the following: adult pedagogy theories from historical and contemporary perspective of humanistic, ecological and holistic viewpoint, the modern concept of lifelong learning, adult education for sustainable development and teacher professional development models, opportunities of quality development and self-realization and personal aspects of adult learning, e – studies.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: is able to explain theories of adult pedagogy, their development, the latest concepts and trends and their use in practice - Seminars.
Skills: is able to analyse and evaluate theoretical approaches of adult pedagogy; to discover and use holistic, humanitarian and ecological approaches in adult education; to link theory, practice and research - Seminars.
Competence: is able to use purposefully and creatively acquired knowledge and skills in professional and scientific activity, which includes analysis of the researched problem in different aspects, with systematic, creative and holistic approach providing pedagogically innovative solutions - Independent home work.

2. Historical aspect of the development of adult pedagogy, the principle of periodicity in scientific research. Seminar. 6h
3. Modern paradigms of education: pragmatically conservative, humanistic phenomenological, ecological, etc. Seminar. 6h
4. Cohabitation, humanistic, ecological approach to adult pedagogy. Levels of educational environment. Seminar. 6h
5. Education for sustainable development; modern education concepts in the context of lifelong learning, educational pillars. Seminar. 6h
6. Theories, values and attitudes of upbringing as a goal. Mentoring and tutoring. Seminar. 6h
7. Learning theories: cognitive, constructive, etc .; modular approach; development of systemic, creative thinking. Seminar. 6h
8. Guidelines on competence / learning outcomes: theories and practice. Principle of complementarity. Seminar. 6h

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work


Integration of the theoretical approaches of adult pedagogy into the dissertation theory chapter in relation to the theme of doctoral student's work.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The exam will be evaluated in a 10-balls system.

The ability to compare and critically evaluate the scientific perspectives of the topics of the adult pedagogical scientific sub-sector, the ability to discuss and argue student’s views will be evaluated in seminars.

Independent homework is evaluated according to the criteria specified in them.
